Bodrum
Yalikavak is a traditional Turkish fishing village on the northern (quieter and less commercialised) coast of the Bodrum Peninsula. It has just started to appear in the mainstream travel brochures and so is a perfect retreat for those more discerning of travellers, looking for a quieter holiday but in easy reach of the hustle and bustle of Bodrum. The Bodrum Peninsula has a wonderful bus (dolmus) service with regular buses serving all the different resorts in season. A car is therefore unnecessary if you prefer using public transport, though out of season, or if you really want to explore a car is recommended. The main beach in Yalikavak is long and narrow and lined with a few restaurants. Yalıkavak is always said to be a little cooler in the summer than other parts of the region due to the gentle offshore breezes. Whereas Bodrum is hot, in all respects, in summer.
